SODAQ, SOWHY, SOWHAT?

By supporting the development of SODAQ, you're helping to build a simple, coding-free platform for a future that is already coming round the corner: connecting multiple things to the internet. Even if you don't write code or hack devices yourself, you can see where we're trying to go: just plug something into a little board and it becomes connected, which means you get to use it from anywhere.

Hobbyists and developers today are trying out new tools to make all this work. SODAQ is at the core of that toolchain. Even if you don't want a board yourself, by topping up our power or pledging enough for a t-shirt, you're helping us build better tools.

Simple examples of useful devices already being connected with SODAQ and related technologies include little wind speed monitors placed at a remote location - they let you know if the wind on that ridge is perfect for paragliding this morning, or no good for flying, but better to stay at home and fix the roof insulation where your linked temperature sensor told you pipes were freezing last winter...

These tools, SODAQ-like boards and communication plugins, code snippets, scripts and libraries, are going to power the coming generation of connected devices - what people are popularly referring to as "the Internet of Things" - and we want to be part of it. Being part of it is being part of an enormous shift, where the world starts to see a dozen or more devices per person online, 50 billion things online by 2020, and growing faster beyond that.
